I am going on holiday with my family for 2 weeks at the end of august- one week in New York City, and the second week we aim to stay somewhere else, more relaxing, with either a villa and a pool or a beach nearby. Does anyone have any suggestions? We will have a rental car so we will be able to drive a fair distance away from New York, but not TOO far. thanks a lot in advance, we are really stuck for ideas!

Why not try Cape Cod or Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts? It isn’t that far of a drive from New York City, and it would definitely be relaxing. There are nice beaches, restaurants, and shopping, and it probably won’t be too crowded at the end of August. You can find more ideas and lodging options here:
